MG TC Owners Club Newsletter

 Meeting 1174- 24th July, 2008

(Produced by Graham Mackie .)

Meeting 1175 , hosted by Barry at the Fremantle Annexe of RPYC was a well attended affair. A roaring fire, a bar, coffee on the side table, masts and boats reflected on a shiny sea, secure parking, not far from Bicton – what more could one hope for. An excellent rollup of over 40 souls on a cold but clear night, some driving open topped from distances near and far and  keeping the MG T Type tradition alive shows the dedication of the many members present

Apologies heard from all corners of the room included Neville, Ralph K., Ivan and Morris. There were others – sorry if you were missed.

Visitor Mick Harcourt from the Royal Aero Club was warmly welcomed.

Minutes of 1174 indicated that 92 bottles of Port were labelled and 50 sold already, that Graham A. pulled the starter out of Mike S's dashboard, Bob Hathaway bought a J Type, Paul G arrived at the meeting to be given a piece of cake and sent home and Phil W. is having his original radiator shell restored after purchasing one that was even worse .

General Business

Numberplate XMG 251 was spotted on a Nissan Patrol in Broome and they explained the significance of it to the owners from South Australia.

Mick Harcourt  of the Royal Aero Club told a ' right royal' joke to lead in to an invitation to the Wings 'n Wheels on 13th September 9am start and a Hangar Tour likely. Clark R. is raffling a flight. Club also doing a Northam Fly-in on 7 September if anyone near there. He addressed the chair as 'Mr. President' and was thanked by our JB for his respect.

Wally Higgs recently departed. Mary Ann will forward a eulogy to GLM for the Newsletter. Arthur Collett now in Kalamunda Hospital. Drive Past was well  timed.

Ron & Sue Depanone back from Targa in Italy . Ron to come and speak to a future meeting on the experience.

Paul Gale seeking a knuckle off a TC Chassis. Said he had had a blackout on trip back from Nuthouse but realised his beanie had dropped over his eyes.

TC Tyres. Ron M has a contact in Bayswater if anyone looking for same. The Penrite bloke – phone 92726411.

Barry P. recorded thanks to Kevin McMahon for arranging tonight. He then spoke of The Club Book which he said 'had become a saga because of the work involved'. Now working through the 80's . 'Staggered at the hours itv takes to produce half a page'. Has now finished 7 chapters . 'Thinks a 50 year book at best in 2011'. Says its bubbling along and he is pleased to be making a contribution.

He spoke of Wally Higgs daughters boyfriend trying to wind back speedo to cover up a night trio to Mt. Barker from Albany.

Membership. Colin D. reported that Vic Longden had renewed his membership and has a TD. Well respected as a harness builder and Mike S. said we were lucky to have him in the club.

TC Parts recovered by JB. A mix up, "take what you want interpreted as taking it all" - an honest acquisition. Mike looking for Track Rod ends.

Phillip W. getting lots from Abingdon Spares in the USA

Grants. Ron M. noted VSCC got a grant. Wally is also on the grant trail for film processing to DVD etc and motoring history. Not an easy path it seems. He then advised he had a quote of $4000 to scan our films but cleaning needed beforehand. Colin indicated this would take 45% of available funds and $1600 is members money as advance payment for 'The Book'. Sponsorship was suggested and another was a $50 levy on members.

The Club History. Graham M suggested that the book be printed as Part 1, "The first 30 years of the TCOC" and in 2011 that Part 2 be released. It is now 7 years since funds were taken for the book and many were keen to see it before going to the obituary section.  Barry P. confirmed that 3 decades was now finished. Wally said that he and Mike were thinking along the same lines. No decision was made.

Next Meeting will be hosted by Clark Rees at the Air Force Museum, Bullcreek.  Meeting preceded by a tour of the museum 7pm for a 7.30 tour followed by a 9pm meeting.
