MG TC Owners Club Newsletter

 from Meeting 1182 - 13th November, 2008

(Produced by Graham Mackie)

Mike hosted Meeting 1182 on the night of a full moon. Doesn't mean anything but I thought I'd throw it in. Did you notice it coming to the meeting – big and beautiful!!.   Daylight saving was used as the excuse for a late start that was said to be early in reality.

Apologies were heard from Doug S., Wally B., Graham R., Peter P., Ivan M.

400 Meetings Ralph K. received a huge round of applause for this achievement.

Minutes of Mtg. 1181 Matters highlighted were the Y Type Run and the sale of the Shelby TC for $400,000

Matters Arising

Safety Fast Run. Brian W. quietly reported his troubles. I couldn't hear much but 510km driven day 1. Collie was good. Accomodation spread out. Next trip likely to include Northam and Wongan Hills. John L. had a visit from Graham King who is keen to get involved and suggested Muresk College. Brian W. agreed to be club's liaison person.

Christmas Party. Colin D reported 55 at present but expects another 8. Taking payment next two meetings.

Old Fart's lunch @ Mundaring Weir Hotel attracted 9 only. Good food, good time.

December Old Farts Lunch (1st December) will be hosted by Ralph K. Jane Brook Winery was suggested.

Bayley Airfield Run.  Was a lounging around on the grass affair. The four Y Types arrived on time . There were 7 TC's, 2 TD's, 1 TF and 1 new TF plus a Clubman. Also Chipmunks, Tiger Moths and Piper Super Cub. Clark took 3 or 4 up in the Moth – sincerely appreciated by all.

Morris Brockwell Run attracted 77 cars with 1 TC.

NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT

Bone TC Jacket.  Clark R. announced that he was sporting a jacket from the weekend and asked for suggestions as to the owner. He displayed it to all and Pres JB took all suggestions on board. The jacket had patches from almost every Easter Run that had been conducted. Some thought Doug S., others Barbara P., another Graham A., but all were ruled out. The meeting proceeded...................remember this.

Y Type Run. Ron was pleased with the report by others at the last meeting but said he wasv overwhelmed with the number that attended.  It included  6 Y's, 6 TC's, 2 TD's, 1 B, 1 Modern TF & others.

Y Type Register has been updated by Mike Burden – now 40 cars.

Tony C. has had some misfortune with his TC. A piston has been destroyed when after 13 years with a supercharger, he decided to add 2inch SU's. After two short runs there was a big problem . Much too technical for me – ask him for the things not to do.

Crowd Trial (16th November) Mike has prepared a challenging run, with generous times . Should take 2 hrs 15 minutes at an average speed of 24mph, with tulip arrows and stick maps. You will need a good speedo and good humour and an understanding wife or navigator.  A sealed envelope will disclose the BYO BBQ site at a lovely members location but you need to take chairs. Meet at the Exmod Cafe at South Perth for a coffee or two between 8.30 and 9am for instructions and a first car departure at 9.30am. Mike wishes you luck, because you will need it he says!!!!!

Correspondence In. Invite to 2009 Classic Car Day  from CCMC and some news re the Avon Valley Swap-meet.

Bob Detheridge. Pres. JB (and all members on email) had an email from John L. setting out reasons for requesting a review of the decision made at the previous meeting which was to refuse to agree to a Concessional Licence application at this time. Bob joined the club last meeting (after a gap of 42 years informed Colin D.) He asked JL to seek approval to have his recently acquired TC placed on concessional licence. The matter was debated again with contributions from Colin D., Pres JB., Mike S., Harry P., Brian W., and others. The outcome was that the same decision would apply as being in the Club's best interests & policy .  The Secretary will now send his letter. Some 'argy bargy' re who to send it too took place. No further debate entertained.  Bob has other options was pointed out to JL.

General Business.

Richard P. asked if his conc. licensed car could be used as a wedding car for a friend's wedding.       Approved.                Wedding Cake all round suggested.

Historic Road Racing at Wanneroo Raceway . (21-23 November) There will be 200 plus bikes including some from New Zealand entered and TCOC are invited to attend and display. 8 to 10 indicated they would like free tickets.

TD Sold. Graham M. asked for the sale of his 1950 TD to Alan D. be minuted.

Pre- war Rally. Mike S. followed it that day to between Dardanup and Waroona.  He was very impressed with two Delarges, Bugatti's etc.

THE JACKET.

President JB was reminded that he and his delightful wife had attended all of the Easter Runs and  was asked if it might be  his wife's. He did agree it probably was.. ...

Next Meeting at the Rose's - Riverton.

Meeting after that is at the Lambie's Chittering Retreat.

It is 17.24km from Bullsbrook and you need to bring chairs
